There is a TED conference video clip getting a lot of play about the incredible stroke experience of neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor. I was mesmerized by her description of the experience and how it coincides with the descriptions of deep spiritual experiences throughout time. I love that clip, and it left me with some unanswered questions.
She is a scientist and her description is from the viewpoint of a scientist. What I found absolutely amazing is that she can now move towards that blissful state she experienced based on "body feelings" she knows are moving her back to her analytical left brain thinking. Much of what are considered problems in the world I would attribute to extreme left brain overanalysis and the actions coming forth from that.
Terry Gross at National Public Radio asked many of the exact questions that I had of her experience in the online interview After A Stroke, a Scientist Studies Herself. The show aired on Wednesday, June 25th. It is 46 minutes in length. If you liked the video clip. This additional depth may help to get a better sense of her experience and the implications for all of us.

Hi Zennie, Thanks for this… I have a Google video of her in my blog….. I thought it was great for her to express her experience, and will now check this out…
Seems a balance between left and right hemisphere workings kind of sums up non-duality…the two working as one…. not no-thing preferred over matter and existence, nor matter and materialism preferred over no-thingness… both as one …. both ARE one… for optimal, healthy functioning….
hope you have a peaceful day,Soul
Exactly! I could not have essenced it better Soul!
As I have grown, I have experienced both extremes. So the middle way balancing the right and left, the apparent up and down and noticing.. becoming aware of what is happening. It is all bubbling up.
There are no mistakes. Your posts have helped me be at peace with whatever, seeing it as is, and supported my learnings from Adya. Isn't it cool to be able to stand back and see and know o.k. what is there and that knowing was the intent?
That is just one reason among many why community is so important to me. Everyone adds on behalf of consciousness the various experiences on part of the one. In a sense, I feel like one sensory, loving, experiencism of the one life connected to you and everyone.
When that awareness surfaces, I am so much less worried about the content and more interested in the experience and what is there, because it is part of what the all wishes to experience. And then there is content. Beautiful paradox. Why? Because that is what actually happens. No denying it. So tendencies and preferences are there, o.k., and I am in love with them in all in their variety. This is a change I must admit from younger years. :o)
And of course, I am grateful when you stop by! After all, I feel you and it is beautiful. Yeah, I know I am feeling who it is I am. LOL! Still I like to project it as I feel it brings me closer to you and others. If it was not so, it would not be.
Love You!
Ben
The story of how her Mom helped her Recover is sooo Great! Aren't they both soooooo Beautiful!!! It is blinding in the best possible way.
Thank you for reminding me of this.
Namaste.
:-)
Thank you for sharing this, Ben! Yes, I too have been touched by Jill Bolte Taylor's crystal clear rendering of her stroke experience. I remember watching it (the video) and receiving the picture very clearly as to what that looked and felt like.
Seems a balance between left and right hemisphere workings kind of sums up non-duality…the two working as one…. Right on, Soul.
What joy to stroll along in the company of you beautiful souls, noticing vibrant beauty, within and without. Nishtha, you too shine in your gratitude.
In beauty,
Nell ;-)
